Don't Let Big Meat Kill Sustainable Diets!

Submitted by Food Democracy Now on May 6, 2015 - 11:21pm

Right now health officials in Washington DC are considering an important public policy matter that could create a seismic shift in our food policy here in the United States and beyond!  And they need to hear from you before Midnight Tonight, Friday, May 8th.

Earlier this year, an advisory panel of public health experts recommended a groundbreaking shift in federal dietary guidelines, advising the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Health and Human Services to adopt a public policy that promotes food that is good for both our health and the environment.

The Dietary Guidelines are a cornerstone of our nutritional policy and education. A shift in the Dietary Guidelines toward sustainability will have a ripple effect throughout our entire food system.  At Food Democracy Now! we believe that sustainability guidelines should focus on reducing consumption of meats produced in factory farms and support family farms that produce local, organic fruits and vegetables and sustainable pasture-raised animals. Please take less than 2 minutes to submit your comments to the USDA and HHS today! It's easy to speak out and have an impact! Every voice counts!
