It's Outrageous a Poison Will be Sprayed on Cape

Submitted by Food Democracy Now on September 8, 2015 - 5:17pm

Enjoying your Outer Cape vacation? It’s hot, so remember to stay hydrated while visiting the National Seashore. Drink a couple glasses of water, drawn from the ground where lies one of the most pristine sole-source aquifers in the nation. You’d better come soon and drink fast, because this fall that water may be polluted.

Eversource, formerly known as NStar, intends to spray five herbicides, including glyphosate, under 150 miles of power lines this month. Why, pray tell, in 2015, does the state Department of Agricultural Resources allow the spraying of herbicides right over our precious sole-source aquifer, based on science that is 30 years old?

The International Agency for Research on Cancer, part of the World Health Organization, recently issued a report stating that the popular weed killer, which retails as Roundup, is “probably carcinogenic to humans.” Yes, that bottle of Roundup in your shed. Take it to your town’s toxic waste collection. Emerging science shows that even low doses of toxic chemicals put your health at risk

It’s outrageous that this poison is still in use across the USA. We Cape Codders don’t want it in our drinking water.
