Tell Hillary - NO more Monsanto Money or Lobbyists in the White House

Hillary received a $335,000 speaking fee from Monsanto's top GMO lobby front group BIO - Tell Hillary to Dump Monsanto’$ lobbyists and give the money back! It’s time to end Monsanto’s hold on the White House and American policy once and for all. Every voice counts.

Dear Food Democracy Now! members,

Today, voters in Iowa go to the first-in-the-nation caucus to vote for who they believe should be the next President. And they need to know where the candidates stand on these issues once and for all.

Yesterday we sent an alert out asking Hillary Clinton to come clean about her position on GMO labeling. It should be a pretty simple answer. She can join the leaders of states like Maine, Connecticut and Vermont, where with overwhelming bipartisan support 3 GMO labeling bills have already passed or she can keep ducking the question.

This email was not an endorsement, but a serious effort to get Hillary Clinton’s campaign to respond to what appears to be another serious breech of failing to put the will of the people (more than 90% of the American public support GMO labeling) over that of corporate interests.

These are the tough questions that the mainstream media should be asking, but they have either been bought or bullied into silence and for us, that’s just not good enough.

We know from following this issue closely, that Hillary’s challenger Bernie Sanders has not been shy about supporting GMO labeling and he supported the GMO labeling bill that passed in his state of Vermont, so we need to get Hillary on record about where she stands. As Food Democracy Now! published last week, in 2008 Barack Obama support GMO labeling and he won the Iowa, so why does Hillary continue to dodge answering this question?

And since she hasn’t responded, we’re going to continue to dig into her background to discover any troubling conflicts of interest and we will being publicizing them for you to share with your friends and family.

The problem is, the more we look, the more troubling information we find.

Regretfully this is not the end of the story about Hillary’s close relationship promoting Monsanto’s agenda around the world.

If you thought her fundraiser at Monsanto headquarters was an outrage and her hiring Monsanto lobbyists to raise millions of dollars to put her back in the White House was bad, wait until you hear about this!

Hillary’s position on GMOs – The Bride of Frankenfood or America’s Grandma?

In 2014, Hillary Clinton received a $335,000 “speaking fee” for giving the keynote address to one of Monsanto’s main GMO lobbying front groups, Biotechnology International Organization (BIO), to help the industry address consumer fears over GMOs. This is an outrage! First $675,000 in speaking fees from Goldman Sachs for 3 speeches and now $335,000 from Monsanto and friends?

Tell Hillary Clinton to give Monsanto’s money back! We can’t let any serious candidate go forward with Monsanto’s checks being stuffed in their pockets! It’s time to stand with the American people to Support Mandatory GMO labeling! Every voice counts!

According to an Organic Consumers Association report on the meeting, Hillary Clinton received a “standing ovation” for her encouraging advice on how to get more people to like GMOs.

Clinton’s advice to the Monsanto biotech crowd was so cring-worthy that it earned her the nickname the “Bride of Frankenfood” among Iowa progressives and rural activists.

Rather than lecture the audience on the need for transparency and improved safety assessments, Clinton coached the audience of biotech devotees to develop "a better vocabulary" to change negative public perception about GMO agriculture.

“‘Genetically modified’ sounds Frankensteinish. ‘Drought-resistant’ sounds like something you’d want,” said Clinton. “Be more careful so you don’t raise that red flag immediately.” Seriously Hillary? Is she coaching Monsanto’s GMO lobbyists to deceive the American public?

One thing is clear, it’s obvious that Hillary will continue to be courted by the biotech industry, but will she finally wake up to stand up to their obscene position that American’s have no right to know if their patented genetically engineered technology is appearing in our food.

This should be a no-brainer for any elected official, GMOs are already labeled in 64 other countries around the world – but for some reason American politicians refuse to stand up and do the right thing. As you’re well aware of, the fight for GMO labeling is currently bogged down in DC, as both Democrats and Republicans refuse to simply create a national mandatory GMO labeling standard?

Now is the time for Hillary and every other presidential candidate to take a stand or lose to moral mandate to be President. More than 90% of the American public wants GMO labeling, what’s there to be afraid of?

Tell Hillary to Dump Monsanto’$ Money and Stand up for Mandatory GMO Labeling! We can’t have another Monsanto loving President in the White House. Every voice counts!

P.S. This is the 2nd article, in a 3 part series in which we will be examining close financial ties to agribusiness and its corrosive impact on family farmers and our food supply. Please forward this story to 3 friends who care about these issues. We can’t afford to have another candidate in the White House that intentionally puts Monsanto’s profits over the rights of the American public.
