We're excited to let you know that today we'll be in Hartford at the state capital with Ben & Jerry's founder Jerry Greenfield to stand up for your right to know what's in your food.

Join Food Democracy Now! today as hundreds of farmers and everyday citizens will be testifying at the state legislature in front of the Public Health Committee to support HB 6519 to support labeling of genetically engineered food.

We hope to see you in Hartford today!

We know it's short notice, but if you're near Hartford today, stop by the state capital to have some Ben & Jerry's famous ice cream and celebrate the fact that everyone's favorite ice cream company has promised to make its ice cream products GMO free by the end of this year!

If you can't make it today, please sign this letter to your state elected officials to let them know you stand with the thousands of citizens in Connecticut to support HB 6519 for labeling of genetically engineered foods.

Attend the Hearing For HB 6519

This Friday, March 15th, the Public Health Committee will be holding a public hearing for HB 6519, An Act Concerning the Labeling of Genetically Engineered Foods.  Please join us at the Legislative Office building, 300 Capitol Avenue today.  

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10:30, but HB 6519 is 10th on the agenda and we do not expect it to be heard until after 12:00 PM.  We want to pack the room.  We are encouraging everyone to take the following actions:

(1) Call your legislator today and ask them to support HB 6519.  House Republicans: 860-240-8700 House Democrats: (860) 240-8585 Senate Republicans: (860) 240-8800 Senate Democrats: 860-240-8600

If you are planning to attend the hearing, schedule a time to meet with your legislator on Friday.

(2)  Please send in written testimony in support of HB 6519 to

(3) Find our table on the second floor of the Legislative Office building where we will have handouts to provide to your legislators with information.  We will also have pins for everyone to wear that will identify our group. 

We are extremely grateful that we have experts in the movement from near and far to support us in Connecticut and testify at this hearing.  

Among those testifying are Jerry Greenfield, (founder of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, which recently announced they are going GMO Free with no added cost to consumer), Dave Murphy and Lisa Stokke (founders of Food Democracy Now), Michael Hansen (Senior Scientist, Consumers Union),  John Fagan (Director, Earth Open Source), John Pittari (owner of New Morning Market), Chris Eddy (executive chef of Winvian), and Bill Duesing (Executive Director, CT-NOFA).  

Jerry has let us know that they will be bringing ice cream!
