Members of the Divest Monsanto Now! coalition will protest en masse in front of Fidelity Investment offices in 7 major cities across the U.S. to demand that Fidelity divest holdings of Monsanto stock in their open-ended mutual funds and investment portfolios. Fidelity currently owns more than $3.2 billion in Monsanto stock or 5.30% of the company. Together with Vanguard and State Street, these popular mutual funds control nearly 16 percent of Monsanto. As long as Monsanto continues to fight mandatory GMO labeling, they will be public enemy number one of the American farmer and consumer.

WHY: Monsanto claims that GMOs are needed to feed the world and are perfectly safe. For the past 22 years, Monsanto has worked behind the scenes in Congress, the FDA and the White House to manipulate regulations and public opinion against the need for mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods in the U.S.
In the last 2 years alone, Monsanto has contributed more than $13 million dollars to defeat GMO labeling ballot initiatives in California and Washington State. Already, Monsanto and the Grocery Manufacturers Association want to sue to declare Vermont’s first no strings attached GMO labeling bill illegal. As long as Monsanto continues to fight mandatory GMO labeling, they will be public enemy number one of the American farmer and consumer.
As the manufacturer of Agent Orange, DDT, PCBs and dioxin, Monsanto’s toxic legacy of harm to the environment and human health is without parallel. Now Monsanto owns patents on life and is genetically engineering the food that we eat.
Monsanto claims that GMOs and their weedkiller Roundup are perfectly safe. So why are they fighting GMO labeling in the U.S.? Unfortunately, if you have a retirement fund, 401K or mutual funds you could be profiting from Monsanto’s toxic products and helping them fight transparency in our food system.
